Well another year is half way through so I thought it was time to see how my 6mm wargaming plans and aspirations are going.
My original plan is here and although I didn’t mention them, I set a painting goal of 200 vehicles/planes and 800 figures. So far I have painted 392 figures which is ontrack, and they comprise one about 30% FPW Bavarians, 30% Fantasy, 25% Napoleonics and the rest Dark ages.

My vehicle painting tally is behind with 52 painted out of 200, and there is a mix of WW2 German, Napoleonic bits and Modern Swedish. So some catchup is needed but I have focused more on painting figures, as that unpainted pile is much bigger.
Figures and projects
And the status so far of these:-
- My FPW Bavarian forces – complete
- WW2 British and German – I have painted a batch of Late war Germans but thats all
- WW2 Desert British – not started
- WW2 French – no progress this year
- Modern Swedish complete apart from 2 aircraft
- Dark Ages Welsh army – about 50% done
- Modern Iranian aircraft – about 60% done unless I buy more
- French and Austrian Napoleonics – 90 painted out of a vague plan of “a few hundred”
- More dungeon denizens– the Undead are finished and just the Skaven (Ratmen) are to do
- Fantasy Orcs and Elves – 75 out of 200 finished but I have added some painted figures to help grow these armies
Scenery
- New trees and hedges – hedges are in progress
- Base up German buildings – a small amount of progress on these
- French Normandy buildings – no more work done
- Middle Eastern scenery – not started
- Mission and ground targets – also not started
- More lower 6mm hills – complete
- Remaining dungeon furniture – the furniture is done and just a few room tiles to make
Gaming
So far this has been very good with more games played this year than others. I played quite a lot of dungeon games while searching for the perfect dungeon crawl experience (currently it is the original Heroquest). I also tried out From Shakos to Coal scuttles for FPW and these are exactly what I am looking for.

Earlier I tried the recently released WRG WW2 rules and although there was some good mechanics, it reminded me why I don’t play those older WRG rules anymore. I might return to them and add some tweaks but I’m not thinking much about WW2 at the moment.
And the last surprise gaming experience was Dominion of the Spear, where I managed 3 games in under 45 minutes, so that is a good way to increase the number of games played for the year. I only have Dark ages figures and Late Romans finished (without an opponent), so my options are limited, unless I start on the massive Alexandrian project I have sitting around. But if I want to increase the DotS style games the I could switch periods and try the Napoleonics and FPW versions of these rules, or the upcoming fantasy version. They are a very good way to get unused armies on the table.
Purchases
So far I have only placed one order of 6mm figures, but it was a just over a 1000 figures from Microworld. Also picked up some nicely painted Orcs and very recently just over 100 painted Baccus Napoleonics (which fill a few gaps nicely). Given the size of the painting pile I don’t have many plans apart from an order to H&R for Adler Napoleonic and WW2 US infantry, but that is not urgent. The same applies for a Scotia order which will allow me to finish the Iran-Iraq war aircraft, and maybe a few of their lovely new WW2 sculpts.
So that’s it for 2026 so far. For some reason I have not been able to progress much on the scenery projects for the last couple of years, even though I prefer making scenery painting figures. Maybe my plans are too big so will try to scale them down or split into smaller pieces.
Impressive painting progress I feel.
