Following on from my FPW French artillery I completed the first batch of French infantry. This ended up being the largest batch of figures (180 figures) I have ever painted in one go. It was certainly a slog but having 180 complete figures is a good feeling!

The Baccus figures are very nice and well detailed with lots of bits to pick out, especially the backpacks, and I spent a bit of time deciding which colours to use. The uniform blue is very bright but I like having much lighter and brighter colours for 6mm, and they will be easy to identify on the table using the 2ft rule. If I went with the historically accurate shade of blue, they would look almost black (same for the Prussians) so I’m happy with this colour choice.

There is a mix of figures in tunics and greatcoats which I didn’t really notice before starting to paint them, but I won’t be mixing the two types on the bases.

Each base has 2 Baccus strips which makes a total of 8 figures per base, and 32 figures for a unit. They are pretty crammed on the base and it creates a good mass effect. I haven’t done anything the flags and when there is some more finished, I will cut away the cast flag pole and replace it with wire and add the flags at that point.
