In my last post I talked about rebasing my 6mm Dark Ages armies for Ravensfeast. I’ve made good progress and have removed them all from their old bases. I originally used PVA to glue the figures on to the bases and caulk for the basing, so after soaking in water overnight, the figures come of the base pretty easily. Then I cleanup the excess caulk around the figures and touch up the bases. This is a bit of extra work and a number of figures also need paint touch ups from where the basing material pulled off some paint or I scratched the figures when removing them.
Next they are glued them onto the new bases and the Baccus strips are 20mm wide, which fits the base nicely. I’m gluing one strip on at a time so I can make sure they line up and I can paint any exposed metal part of the base, and put any caulk in between the bases before adding the next base. Otherwise it’s tricky and I end up getting the caulk on the figures even if I’m careful.
And it looks like I’ll have to paint some more Saxons and Vikings, but I can work that out once I have based everything up.

What colour paints do you use and what type/colour caulk? Plus how do you actually apply it without it going all over?

The base colours are a mix of Yellow Ochre and Raw Umber which I got from the Warehouse stationery. The caulk is Selleys No more gaps and the colour is Coffee – see here for a picture
