My board has been progressing slowly as it is usually covered with stuff, which makes it hard to work on! Recently I made a concerted effort to clear all the junk off it and work on it.
Firstly I used some caulk to smooth out the join and some of the scratches and holes, which I think were made by a cat.

Then I added a couple of sections of dirt areas just to break up the green. These was also made from coloured caulk with some fine sand sprinkled on top. The caulk was very old and had started to harden so it didn’t spread well. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture at this point.
Then I painted the board with a bright green and sprinkled on some Woodlands Scenics green blend. I’m not a huge fan of this colour because it looks too dark, but its a good base flock. The edges of dirt areas don’t look great at this point as I got the paint and flock too close.

I’ve been reading Mels’ book (The Terrain Tutor) called Terrain Essentials. If has a very good section on groundwork and I like his approach to layering different flocks on. I usually either throw on one layer, or apply different flocks in areas, but I’ve never been 100% happy with these methods.

Next I’ll add more layers of flock including static grass and bushes. To finish it off I plan to airbrush some areas in different greens, browns and sandy colours to help blend it together. I picked up a cheap airbrush from china which has a big paint cup, specifically so I can use it for scenery.
