Another workbench update and this time its some Dark ages settlements I’ve started on. However a new puppy in our household has meant that I have had zero free time in the last week for any gaming related activities, and probably wont for a while!
I’ve started on two Dark Ages settlements with one being Viking and the other a more generic Celtic settlement. Both of these bases are designed to fit in an imaginary 15mm DBA scaled BUA footprint, and I wanted to avoid the rectangular shape that a lot of DBA scenery has (my own included!)
The Celtic village uses Timecast buildings mounted on a old piece of plasticard and some 5mm foam. I then cut out a small moat and some holes for the buildings. The Timecast buildings have thick bases so I cut the base shapes out of the foam, and them cut the shapes in half and stuck them back in, so the Timecast base will be level with the ground. It sounds like a lot of work, but its less than the sanding/sawing the thick bases off and not as messy.

The second base will be a Viking village with Leven buildings and a few Irregular bits so they will be glued straight on.

Also I found this old ruined temple from the Mainly Miniatures building range, so I used some XPS foam to created a hill, but it looks a bit cramped. I might slice up some XPS foam into thin strips and glue them down to build up the banks, if it annoys me.
